FabLab Tools for Biomedical Innovation 1 : 2D and 3D design and fabrication
Introduction
Do you want to build your own biomedical devices and tools? This master class will provide an introduction to the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilize FabLab tools in biomedical research and engineering projects. You will acquire the skills needed to start developing your own tools using 3D printers and laser cutters.
Course Coverage
The class will focus on 2D and 3D design and fabrication, covering the full tool chain from problem identification to CAD modeling (using Fusion 360) to physical object creation (using laser cutting and 3D printing). A future class, “FabLab Tools for Biomedical Innovation 2: Arduino,” will cover electronics and sensors.
Hands-on Activities
During the day, each participant will be able to 3D print one object and laser cut one object.
Audience
This workshop is open to students (master’s, doctoral) and professionals (university and external). No particular skills are required. Participants are encouraged to come up with ideas of objects to model in 3D.
Requirements:
- A personal laptop able to run the Autodesk Fusion 360 software for 3D design.
- A license for Fusion 360 software for 3D design.
Students and teaching staff
Students and teaching staff are encouraged to request a free education license at https://www.autodesk.fr/products/fusion-360/education. As validation of the license can take several days, student participants are invited to request their license one week before the workshop.
Other participants
Other participants will have access to a license for the duration of the course.
All participants
All participants are asked to read the tutorial that will be provided on the basics of the software in advance, so as to have a practice-centered class.
Learning Objectives
During this masterclass, you will:
- Learn the basics of 3D design with Fusion 360.
- Become familiar with a 3D printer and laser cutter.
- Gain hands-on experience in the design of objects.
- Acquire skills in the fabrication of objects in a FabLab.
